Our team is available to discuss the options with you.

Mounjaro and Wegovy are both weekly weight loss injections that work by suppressing appetite, slowing down the rate at which food exits your stomach, and making you feel fuller for longer.

Wegovy is the brand name for the medication semaglutide. It has been shown to significantly reduce body weight when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Like Mounjaro, it also utilizes GLP-1 receptors, working on the parts of the brain that regulate your appetite, reducing feelings of hunger and the desire for high-fat foods. Clinical trials have demonstrated that Wegovy can help patients lose up to 15% of their body weight, offering a substantial improvement over previously available treatments.

Like Wegovy, Mounjaro is the brand name for the active ingredient tirzepatide. This medication targets multiple hormone pathways involved in appetite regulation and energy balance. It works by mimicking the action of GIP (gastric inhibitory polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), which help to regulate blood sugar levels and appetite. Mounjaro not only aids in weight loss but also helps improve blood sugar control, making it a promising option for individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes. Mounjaro, unlike Wegovy, also helps reduce the amount of fat building up around crucial organs inside your body.

The drugs have different dosage pathways; however both are introduced and increased slowly until the maintenance dose is reached. The data shows that Mounjaro is more effective, however switching drugs should be thought through carefully. If you are already tolerating the medication and seeing good results, switching might not be the best course of action.

As with all medication, our private GPs will carefully assess your medical needs, discuss the options available to you and will plan and monitor your dosage pathway.
