Concierge Medical sponsored Zak O’Sullivan, holds on to his British F3 Championship lead.

Concierge Medical sponsored Zak O’Sullivan extended his lead of the British F3 Championship by 78 points last weekend after just four rounds after experiencing his racing debut at Belgium’s renowned Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

Zak’s race handling in Spa has shown his maturity and skill to negotiate two second place finishes in the opening two races before claiming seventh spot in the reverse-grid final race on a previously undriven circuit.

Following the previous weekend success at Donington, where the 16-year-old Carlin driver took pole position for both opening races, before making a perfect start on both occasions and leading every lap to the chequered flag.

The only downside to his weekend at Donington was a crash with title rival Reece Ushijima (Hitech) in the reverse grid finale, which saw Ushijima hit with a five-place grid penalty for the race meeting at Spa. Zak left Donington with a 47-point advantage in the standings.

Cheltenham based Zak was delighted with his weekend’s work. He said: “I really enjoyed my first weekend at Spa. Friday was obviously a big learning curve for me having to get to know the track and qualify but second on the grid was a good result. Overall, I got some good points, extended the championship lead and it was a really strong weekend.”

Zak now sits on 294 Championship points, 78 points ahead of Reece Ushijima (Hitech) and 82 points ahead of Carlin teammate Christian Mansell.

Next up is Snetterton, (August 7 -8), a track which Zak knows well and has previously enjoyed success at. He said, “We’ll approach it in just the same way as the other rounds and will enjoy a bit more time at the track to prepare, so I hope it will be another productive weekend.”
