Struggling with weight has been a lifelong challenge for me. Over the years, Iâve tried countless methodsâweight loss clubs, calorie-tracking apps, gym memberships. Each worked temporarily, but my motivation inevitably faded. Iâd slip back into old habits: relying on quick, convenient meals, over-snacking, and leading a largely sedentary lifestyle. The cycle felt endless, and each setback made the journey harder.
When I decided to start Mounjaro, it wasnât a decision I took lightly. Working in medicine, I was fully aware of the potential risks: pancreatitis, thyroid cancer, and other complications. But my health was deteriorating. While my weight wasnât at its peak, I felt exhausted, sluggish, and plagued by knee and back pain.
As a healthcare professional, I asked myself: If Iâm willing to recommend this treatment to my patients, shouldnât I trust it enough to try it myself? I realised I owed it to myselfâand my two childrenâto prioritise my health. They deserve a parent who is present, active, and healthy. That became my turning point.
I began my Mounjaro journey in July 2024, and while it hasnât been entirely smooth, it has been transformative. Iâve experienced side effects like nausea and the occasional âsulphur burpsâ that make me sound like Homer Simpson in the morning! But overall, Iâve tolerated the medication well, and the benefits have far outweighed the challenges.
Of course, Mounjaro isnât a magic fix. Sustainable success demands lifestyle changes. Iâve committed to eating mostly home-cooked meals and incorporating regular exercise, using the Wattbike three times a week. This combinationâmedication, healthier eating, and exerciseâhas been life-changing.
To date, Iâve lost over 50 pounds, and I feel like a completely new person. The constant aches and pains are gone, replaced by energy and confidence I havenât felt in years. Beyond the physical changes, Iâve gained a renewed sense of purpose.
This journey is about so much more than weight loss. Itâs about ensuring Iâm there for my children, watching them grow, celebrating their milestones, and someday meeting their own children. Missing out on their lives simply wasnât an option I was willing to accept, and that became my greatest motivation.
Mounjaro has been a powerful tool, but itâs just thatâa tool. It must be used responsibly and in conjunction with healthy lifestyle changes. Itâs not a quick fix for shedding a few pounds; itâs a treatment for a serious condition: obesity. With the right mindset and proper medical guidance, it can change lives, just as it has changed mine.
This isnât the end of my story. Maintaining these changes will take hard work and vigilance. But for the first time in years, I feel hopeful, motivated, and ready to embrace a healthier future with open arms.
